How's it going?

It's been a while since my last development video, so I thought I'd share the latest changes to Rocket Rumble.

First up, guns. The ship can now shoot things and things blow up! Those enemy emplacements won't cause you much grief now. And there are sparks when they're hit along with explosions when they're destroyed. Environment objects, like lights, can also be destroyed, but look out for the shrapnel as it's all deadly.

These visual effects are accompanied by sound effects. The chink-chink of the enemy being hit and the boom when it (or you) explodes.

There's now suitable repetitive music (as would have been the case in any 80's 8-bit game worth its salt) to accompany your gameplay,. Thanks to George Harris for knocking up the tune in his lunch break ;)

Level 5 is in progress, as you can see towards the end of the video. When I finish this level I'll upload a new browser version. I'm going to stop doing multi-platform builds for now, as there's no real need.

The caverns now have names, and their objectives are also displayed before each level. This allows me to change the requirement of a cavern, so maybe an objective might be simply to destroy all enemy guns or destroy a specific target.

Next steps:

1. Finish level 5 and upload it here.
2. Get rid of that awful splash screen and get a nice menu system in place.
3. More levels.
4. Introduce more gameplay mechanics, such as shootable buttons to open doors, more enemies, more environmental objects. Maybe add a puzzle element to the some of the caverns.
5. Split the game into worlds of 10 levels each. This will allow the game to launch with 1 world and be  updated with complete worlds once I've created them. Initially the game will only be available on Android devices.

Things I'm thinking of adding:
Occasional 2D stages, reminiscent of 80's shooters like Scramble. Occasional 3D on-rail stages.
Anyway, I've bored you enough, so any comments, suggestions etc are welcome. Keep checking back for more info.

Far in the future:
Create a Windows version and get it in the Windows Store
Create an Xbox One version and get it in the Xbox Store
Find out Playstation and Apple/Mac requirements for publishing.

Really far into the future:
Think about my next game.
